“Do you know a good handy man? Do you know someone who does house projects like basement finishing? Do you know a good electrician? How about someone who can do some auto repair work?”
I often have these kinds of conversations with my friends, and we have our network of people we trust and would recommend. Consequently, we often tell each other, “I know a guy who——”
As we are about to launch into Holy Week and the lead-up to Easter, it could be helpful to remind ourselves that we know a Guy! As you think about this, what might be some needs in your life?
Do you have a shortage of resources or an abundance of need? I know a Guy who specializes in provision management. He can multiply limited supplies such that they become more than enough. He’s not impacted by tariffs, the economy or the stock market. Indeed, He’s the ultimate investor, not only with finances, but more importantly with people. Let’s remember that Jesus can be our provision Guy, refreshing our memories about His miracle of multiplying bread and fish to feed more than 5,000 people! Consider the following verses, where Jesus multiplied five loaves of bread and two fish to feed such a massive quantity of people:
“Ordering the people to sit down on the grass, He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds, and they all ate and were satisfied. They picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve full baskets.” (Matthew 14:19-20)
Do you have health challenges? Are you struggling with some physical issues, a diagnosis, chronic pain or unresolved limitations? I know a Guy who is the Ultimate Physician, better than the best concierge doctor or most elite specialist. Jesus can be our Healer and step into our ailments to heal and redeem, along with giving us wisdom and strategies for being healthy and whole!
Consider the woman with the issue of blood, “When the woman saw that she had not escaped notice, she came trembling and fell down before Him, and declared in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched Him, and how she had been immediately healed. And He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.’” (Luke 8:47-48)
Do you have relationship difficulties? Have you had some heartbreaks and struggles with relationships? I know a Guy who does great work in that space, bringing truth, healing and redemption. Consider Jesus’ conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4. When He told her to go and call her husband, her curt reply reflected a chasm of brokenness and pain. “I have no husband.” Over the course of their conversation, this brokenhearted woman experienced healing and redemption, as we can see from her actions and words in John 4:28-29, “So the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and said to the men, ‘Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?’”
In thinking about Jesus, let’s remind ourselves that we know a Guy who is our Redeemer, Healer, Provider, Savior and so much more!
